Aamir Khan and Rajinikanth are likely to share the screen once again in the upcoming Tamil movie Coolie, 30 years after their last collaboration in the 1995 film, Aatank Hi Aatank. While no official confirmation has been made, reports suggest that Aamir Khan will play a small cameo role in the movie, adding to the excitement of fans.
The film is directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, a filmmaker known for his hit movies, and is one of the most eagerly awaited Tamil films. Initially, the role of the main villain was supposed to be played by Nagarjuna, but due to unforeseen changes, Kannada actor Upendra Rao has been cast in this role instead. The film also features iconic actors like Amitabh Bachchan and Shruti Haasan in significant roles.
There was some buzz among fans that Coolie might be part of Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Cinematic Universe (LCU), which includes popular films like Kaithi and Vikram. However, Lokesh clarified that Coolie is a standalone movie and not connected to his other works. He did reassure fans that the LCU will continue to expand with future movies, but Coolie will have its unique storyline.
Filming for Coolie started in July 2024 in Hyderabad, and while the exact release date hasn’t been announced, it’s expected to hit theaters in the second half of 2025. The film is being produced on a large budget, reflecting its ambitious scale.
Meanwhile, both Aamir Khan and Rajinikanth are busy with other major projects. Aamir is working on Sitaare Zameen Par, a Hindi remake of the Spanish film Champions, where he stars alongside Genelia Deshmukh. Rajinikanth is involved in a project called Vettaiyan, directed by TJ Gnanavel.
The reunion of these two legendary actors, even if brief is already creating a lot of anticipation. Coolie promises to be a special film that fans of both Aamir Khan and Rajinikanth will not want to miss.
