Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan’s films bring major losses to THIS production house
Lyca Productions, known for backing some of Tamil cinema’s biggest films, is currently grappling with significant financial losses. Despite working with top stars like Superstar Rajinikanth and Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan, the company has struggled to recover its investments. The failure of several high-budget films has placed Lyca in a difficult position, making it challenging for the trade to predict the future of this once-prestigious production house.
One of the latest setbacks for Lyca Productions is Vettaiyan, starring Rajinikanth and directed by TJ Gnanavel. The film was expected to help the company recover losses from Rajinikanth’s earlier films with Lyca, including Darbar and 2.0. Unfortunately, instead of alleviating the financial strain, Vettaiyan has added to Lyca’s difficulties. Rajinikanth even agreed to a reduced remuneration for the project, but it has not been enough to turn things around.

Before Vettaiyan, another Rajinikanth-starrer, Lal Salaam, directed by his daughter Aishwarya and produced by Lyca, also failed to perform at the box office. Although Rajinikanth was committed to helping Lyca recover its losses, these efforts have not yielded the expected results, leading to more financial strain for the production company.
In addition to these challenges, Lyca also faced significant losses with Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2. Directed by Shankar, this high-budget film took a long time to complete and struggled to make a mark at the box office. The failure of Indian 2 has cast doubt on the future of a potential sequel, Indian 3, which many fear could further deepen the company’s financial woes.
With both Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan’s films underperforming, Lyca Productions is now dealing with mounting losses, putting its future in a precarious situation.
