The US protests in the wake of the African-American, George Floyd death have crossed borders. The African-American death has triggered protests calling out the end of racism. Celebrities back home also have joined the protest by lending support via social media. While the support is pouring in by using hashtag Blacklivesmatter, there are few who are using #AllLivesMatter , however the latter is being condemned for counterproductive.
A day back, actress Tamannaah Bhatia was criticized for using #AllLivesMatter. Now Rajasekhar’s daughter Shivathmika who had used the #AllLivesMatter has now extended her apology. She wrote, “#AllLivesMatter is being used to oppose the #blacklivesmatter movement. I apologies for putting that up, that wasn’t the intention.” (sic)
Her post added, “So many of us have an issue with Indians fighting for the BLM movement because we don’t speak abt the issues India have. I’m just trying to say…we must fight for black lives, migrant lives, Indian lives, animal lives and all lives! But right now it’s important to support the ongoing battle of the BLM Movement! Let us fight everything together, let us speak abt every problem. We must stand together.” (sic)
