Rajamouli takes a bold risk with two major projects
Legendary director SS Rajamouli is gearing up for his upcoming film, SSMB 29 which stars Mahesh Babu in the lead role, with Priyanka Chopra as the female lead. While this project has already stirred excitement among fans, another of Rajamouli’s long-cherished dreams is also adding to the anticipation. The director is eager to bring the epic Mahabharata to the big screen in his signature style.
Rajamouli has expressed a strong desire to adapt Mahabharata into a film for many years. In fact, he had hoped to tackle the project right after the success of Baahubali, but was advised against it at that time due to the challenges involved in such a grand undertaking. Instead, he directed RRR. Now, with his focus on SSMB 29, Rajamouli feels it is the perfect time to bring his vision of Mahabharata to life, even if it means taking on a difficult project.
The excitement surrounding Mahabharata is undeniable, and many fans believe Rajamouli is the right person to direct this epic film. His previous works, particularly Baahubali and RRR, have earned him a reputation for delivering large-scale, visually stunning films. As a result, there is little doubt that if anyone can do justice to the Mahabharata, it is Rajamouli.
Currently, Rajamouli’s attention is fixed on SSMB 29, which has just started production. This project is expected to take around three years to complete. The film has a huge budget of ₹1000 crores and will be made in two parts. Although the Mahabharata project is still in the early stages of discussion, it is likely to be a few years before it materializes, possibly in 4 to 5 years, if it happens at all.
However, one thing is clear: If Mahabharata is to be adapted into a film, fans and critics alike believe SS Rajamouli is the ideal director for the task. His proven expertise in bringing large-scale stories to the screen has set high expectations for his future projects.
