Royalty had always been an issue with the music industry. We hear that Aditya Music had made a killing with ‘Nakaleesu Golusu’ number. It had reportedly acquired the rights from the producer for approximately two lakhs and after the film got rave reviews and the song became a hit, it had made more than a crore. Aditya Music debuted in movie production with Kalyan Ram-Satish Vegesna film that became a disaster but they seem to have got a breather with this song by Raghu Kunche. Music companies usually don’t pay anything at all to the producers of these new and small films, they probably give an advance to some and pay them a little when the song goes viral.
Producer should get royalty, not others Each good song gets around 50 thousand rupees. It is reported that Madhura Sreedhar who is not very successful with movie production is happy with the money he makes from the Madhura audio company he owns. Coming back to royalty, these days the writer, singer and the music director are demanding their pound of flesh for every song. They have realised that every commercial event where their song is used, their monetary benefits is something which can’t be ignored. Lyricists maintain a good relationship with the music directors hoping that their name would be recommended for the music director’s next big project. The trio have come to a decision that it is better to charge less as a remuneration but make the agreement water-tight and seek royalty. It is not fair for these people to demand royalty from the producers, they already fetch good money from the producer for their work in the form of remunerations. The film producer is the one who should be demanding it, not the trio.
