Nara Rohit’s return to the big screen with a political thriller Prathinidhi 2, just ahead of the AP elections, sparked anticipation. Directed by Murthy, the film is rumored to have a political agenda. Let’s delve into how the movie fares amidst these expectations.
Story: A well-known journalist(Udaya Bhanu) creates a news channel called NNC with the aim of delivering only truthful news to the public. She is socially responsible and not driven by money. She appoints an honest journalist named Chetan (Nara Rohit) as the CEO of the company. Chetan begins to expose corrupt political leaders. However, things take a dark turn when CM Prajapathi(Sachin Khedekar) is assassinated. The film revolves around uncovering the mastermind behind the assassination and their motives. Chetan is determined to unravel the truth behind the murder.
Performances and Technical Aspects: Nara Rohit’s return to the screen is impactful, though his role lacks the monologues seen in his previous film. Sachin Khedekar impresses as Chief Minister Prajapathi, while Jisshu Sengupta adds depth to his character. However, Ajay Ghosh’s portrayal falls short, and Uday Bhanu’s performance doesn’t stand out. The music by Mahati Swara Sagar and cinematography by Nani Chamidisetty are average, and the VFX work is lacking. Director Murthy Devagupthapu’s direction is subpar, with the film losing momentum in the second half due to shallow writing and the inclusion of commercial elements.
Analysis: The first half, despite its predictable plot, delivers some engaging moments. Smart dialogues and a fast-paced narrative help maintain interest, along with some well-executed scenes that highlight political corruption. However, the second half disappoints with its unrealistic portrayal of the CBI investigation and lack of logical consistency. The addition of superficial elements detracts from the film’s purpose of questioning the system and addressing corruption.
The film’s focus shifts abruptly in the second half, and logical inconsistencies hinder the storytelling. The romantic song feels out of place, and character backgrounds lack depth. While the cliffhanger sets up a potential sequel, it fails to generate much excitement. Despite its aim to raise awareness about political issues, the film falls short in delivering a compelling narrative.
Verdict: Prathinidhi 2 attempts to tackle political corruption but falls short due to its clichéd treatment and lack of engagement. While the performances are decent, the film’s direction and screenplay leave much to be desired. Overall, it fails to make a significant impact and misses the opportunity to delve deeper into its themes.
