The copyright cases is not a new trend in Kollywood as earlier, many Tamil films have faced these allegations. Generally, these are settled by giving compensation to the original writer. Now, Suriya’s Kaappaan has landed in the same trouble. A writer named John Charles filed a case stating that director KV Anand copied Kaappaan from his script Saravedi.
John said that he narrated the story of Saravedi to KV Anand on January 2017 and is waiting for Anand’s call since then. But he was shocked after seeing the teaser of Kaappaan which almost looked like his own film’s story. Now, he demanding the makers to pay him the copyright fees and also credit him as the writer of the film.
The next hearing of the case will be on September 4 in the Madras High Court. Kappaan is being dubbed into Telugu as Bandobast. Starring Mohanlal, Arya and Sayyeshaa in the other pivotal roles, this movie is slated to release on September 20.
