The investigation into the phone tapping case has unearthed troubling revelations. Telangana police officials have discovered that a constable, working during the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government, exploited his position to victimize numerous women. This constable, stationed in Nalgonda, allegedly blackmailed around 40 women by eavesdropping on their phone conversations. Shockingly, he faced no repercussions due to his close ties with a high-ranking officer in Nalgonda district, where a phone tapping facility was established for certain politicians.
Recent findings suggest that the constable abused his authority, amassing considerable sums of money through unauthorized raids conducted based on tapped phone leads. The ruling Congress government has vowed to take action against BRS leaders implicated in the scandal. Moreover, the constable, under scrutiny for harassing individuals in a ganja case and extorting money, reportedly tapped the phones of journalists as well.
This misconduct extends beyond individual abuses of power. During previous by-elections, phones belonging to opposition leaders, including the current chief minister Revanth Reddy, were also reportedly tapped by the Special Intelligence Branch (SIB). Consequently, four police officials, both retired and serving, have been apprehended by the Hyderabad police in connection with the case. Among them are former Deputy Commissioner of Police, Task Force, Radha Kishan Rao, and Additional SP Thirupathanna, along with others.
The arrested officers allegedly colluded to manipulate the outcome of the 2023 Assembly elections in favor of the BRS party. The ongoing investigation continues to uncover the extent of corruption and abuse within the system. As authorities delve deeper, it is imperative to hold all involved parties accountable and restore trust in law enforcement.
