The phone-tapping scandal in Telangana has gripped the attention of many recently. Allegations suggest that the former BRS government, with the aid of police officers, intercepted calls of influential figures in the state. In the latest development, the Nampally court has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Prabhakar Rao, the former chief of the Special Investigation Branch (SIB), marking him as the primary accused (A1) in this case. Additionally, the warrant extends to the owner of a news channel implicated in the affair.
Today, the Nampally court deliberated on the police’s petition to arrest Prabhakar Rao. After considering the case, the court invoked CRPC Section 73 and issued the arrest warrant. Four police officers have already been apprehended and placed in remand as part of this investigation. Statements from these officers suggest that Prabhakar Rao played a significant role in tampering with evidence related to the phone-tapping.
Following the registration of the case, Prabhakar Rao fled abroad, prompting authorities to issue lookout notices at all airports. To escalate the search, obtaining a red corner notice or enlisting Interpol’s assistance requires court authorization. Consequently, a petition for Prabhakar Rao’s arrest warrant was submitted and approved today.
