The YSR Congress Party (YCP) currently holds only 11 seats in the Assembly and four seats in Parliament, significantly losing its influence and status as the main opposition party. Rumors are circulating that some YCP MPs might join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Adi Narayana Reddy, a BJP MLA from Jammalamadugu, made notable comments suggesting that YCP MPs are considering this switch. He specifically mentioned that YCP MP Mithun Reddy is actively lobbying with senior BJP leaders.

Reddy highlighted that, apart from YS Avinash Reddy, the other three YCP MPs are likely to join the BJP. Despite not yet receiving a positive response from the BJP, these YCP MPs reportedly continue their efforts to join the party.

Adi Narayana Reddy also stated that Mithun Reddy is urging his father, Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy to make the move to BJP. This development is significant because Peddireddy is a prominent figure in the YSR Congress, and his departure would be a substantial blow to the party especially in the Rayalaseema region and Chittoor district.

In the 2019 elections, the YCP won 22 parliamentary seats, while the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) secured only three. The YCP played a crucial role in supporting the central government by backing key bills in the Rajya Sabha, where it holds 11 seats. However, the political landscape has shifted dramatically following the YCP’s recent defeat to the alliance of the TDP, Jana Sena and BJP in the latest elections.
