Vishwak Sen has been working hard to promote his new film Paagal. The film is now out on the big screens, and read our review to find out if the film has any juice in it or not.
Plot
Prem(Vishwak Sen) loses his mother at a very young age. When he grows up, he starts looking for a girl who can love him the way his mother did. In this process, he proposes to 1600 girls but everyone rejects him. Things change when he meets Teera(Nivetha Pethuraj) and falls in love with her. But she is all set to get engaged. What will he do now and how he will win his love is the story.
Performances
Vishwak Sen is a talented actor and looks cute in the film. His character is kind of a mad guy for love and Sen portrays it with utmost sincerity. Nivetha Pethuraj has a good role but is clueless in her acting. As her character does not have proper emotions, she looks lost. Mahesh, Auto Ram prasad, and Rahul Ramakrishna evoke good comedy in the film. Bhumika is impressive as the hero’s mom. Murali Sharma is hilarious with his expressions.
Analysis
Paagal has a bit of an over-the-top concept. A young guy looking for his mother in a girl. Such concepts have been told before but this is set well in Paagal. The first half is all about Vishwak Sen proposing to girls. The comedy generated with this part is pretty nice. The comedy bits and especially the Andallu comedy of Mani Ratnam spoof are neat.
The film comes to the breakpoint in an impressive manner as well. The way the director holds this part with Murali Sharam is nice. But from there the film takes a big nose dive. The track between Nivetha Pethuraj and Vishwak Sen lacks sheen and there is no depth in the romance. The songs are good and the visuals are impressive.
As things are way too much forced, the drama takes a beating. The hero is so serious about the girl but she does not care about him for a reason. All this is not showcased well. Most of the film is dull during this time. Vishwak Sen spoke so much about the film and it might take some openings but all this is not delivered as the film bites the dust.
Bottom Line – All hype no substance
