If one were to name an instance of immense potential going down the drain and not being nourished to the fullest in Telugu cinema, actress Priyamani’s career stands out as a good example. Though the actress has been part of commercially successful films including Yamadonga, Pellaina Kothalo, Sambho Siva Sambho besides some performance-oriented outings like Raavan, Rakta Charitra 2, a series of poor choices (like Drona, Mitrudu, Toss, Kshetram, Sadhyam and Chandi to name a few) between those outings didn’t give her career the momentum it very well deserved. However, it’s immensely relieving to note that the actress has quickly learnt from her mistakes.
Though the Prakash Raj directorial Mana Oori Ramayanam earned her good critical acclaim, it was her well-etched role in Amazon Prime’s The Family Man that gave her enough scope to prove her worth. It was a smart decision on the part of the makers to cast her in the part of a South Indian Tamil-speaking wife to the protagonist – her comic timing and histrionic talent truly came to the fore in the role. The show opened the gateways of the Hindi film industry to the actress. Besides Ajay Devgn’s film based on the life of an Indian footballer due to release in late 2020/early 2021, she has also starred in the digital release Ateet, where she shared screen space with Sanjay Suri and Rajeev Khandelwal.
In the meanwhile, her return to form was marked by a series of promising offers in Telugu cinema – Narappa with Venkatesh (the remake of Asuran) and the Venu Udugula-film Virata Parvam 1992, incidentally both being co-produced by Suresh Productions. Another film Sirivennela, a horror-thriller is also set for a release. The second season of The Family Man has already completed shoot and is one of the most anticipated shows this year.(Incidentally, the show marks the debut of Samantha in the digital space) It took one popular digital show to get her career back on track. There’s no doubt that she’s a terrific performer who’s impressed audiences across five languages now. One hopes she does well to sustain this momentum.
Klapboardpost.com wishes her a very happy birthday.
