What RGV tweeted was right, when we were children, we were made to believe that Godse is a villain and he killed Gandhi. At such an age it is impossible to ask questions and form an opinion of your own. The atmosphere where you grow, your upbringing, the little trivia that parents tell you helps you in forming a perspective. For some reason I still believe that Puttaparthi Baba is not a Godman and Godse is not a villain but that again is my opinion. Naga Babu’s and RGV’s tweets are democratic. They might or might not make sense, it is upto us to ignore it or not. RGV said, “The only introduction to Godse we had as children was as Gandhi’s killer. There was a time when he was a follower of Gandhi. What made such a person do what he did?” RGV said, suggesting that the film he will direct will explore the issue in detail. He further questioned “Godse wanted both Independence and Partition. When both were achieved, why did he kill Gandhi? Disagreements needn’t lead to murderous acts. (Sardar Vallabhai) Patel and others were not happy with Gandhi’s demand to make a large contribution from our treasury to Pakistan, but they couldn’t resist him.”
“He is a true patriot. On his birthday, I felt like remembering him once. Poor Nathuram Godse,” Naga Babu tweeted. These supposedly controversial tweets on the line of extremist Hindutva elements, evoked a strong response from one and all. We gathered some little known info on Godse from RSS followers.
Godse was a member of RSS and Hindu Maha Sabha from 1932 to 1935. He went out of RSS in 1940s came up with Hindi Rashtra Dal and then killed Gandhi. In 1947-48, Gandhi was in Delhi in a Muslim dominated area. His life was in danger and to kill Gandhi, one need not protect him. RSS stood guard for three months which was acknowledged by Nehru. RSS saved Nehru’s life several times. Nehru went to Karachi in1946 to tell that India’s partition won’t take place and he will take care of them. A murder attempt was made by the Muslim League and RSS saved him. Gandhi visited RSS camp in 1947 and applauded them. He was impressed by them and said that there was a complete absence of divisive feelings of caste and creed in them. The Chinese initiation of the 1962 war with India was a violation of the Panchsheel Treaty. Shortly after independence, Nehru was contemplating dismantling the military. The Military was ill prepared and our Police were arrested at the borders. Several thousands of volunteers did the Police job and in recognition of it Nehru asked RSS to participate in the Republic Day parade in their honour. RSS never sought publicity and during this pandemic, they are doing great service and none know about it. (To corroborate that, we publish an extract from a book of Major General AA ‘Jick’ Rudra of the Indian Army.
According to the book, Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru blew his top when Lt General Sir Robert Lockhart, the first commander in chief of India took a strategic plan for a Government directive on defence policy.
“Shortly after independence, General Lockhart as the army chief took a strategic plan to the prime minister, asking for a government directive on the defence policy. He came back to Jick’s office shell-shocked. When asked what happened, he replied, The PM took one look at my paper and blew his top. ‘Rubbish! Total rubbish!’ he shouted. ‘We don’t need a defence plan. Our policy is ahimsa (non-violence). We foresee no military threats. Scrap the army! The police are good enough to meet our security needs’,” the Daily Times quotes the book as saying.”)
