While smoking has been banned at public places, an initiative adopted by many nations but the US has gone further. Ohio, the city in the US has now taken an initiative at workplaces by putting a ban on smokers. Yes, you read it right.
Ohio city bans smoking
The officials at Dayton have said that individuals who fail pre-employment tests for tobacco and nicotine will not be hired. “Studies indicate that employees that smoke cost approximately an additional $6,000 per year in direct medical costs and lost productivity,” said, Kenneth Couch, the city’s director of human resources.
A study has shown the individuals who smoke they spend nearly $6,000 on their medical expenses. Meanwhile, Rick Oakley, president of the Dayton Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 44, says,“We are not thrilled about it,” adding, “But we also understand where the city is coming from because the biggest part of their health care costs are from nicotine-related illnesses.”
