Anushka Shetty-Madhavan-Anjali-Shalini Pandey starrer Silence a.k.a Nishabdham’s direct-to-digital rights were sold to Amazon Prime Video recently. However, the sale of rights is a tad different in comparison to other online releases. Generally, the producer has the ownership to sell his film through satellite and digital avenues separately. In the case of Nishabdham, the film is now completely owned by Amazon Prime Video and this is the only platform where one could view this.
Does this mean one can’t watch this film on television? Quite possible, because this film is being marketed as an ‘Amazon Original Movie’. It’s definitely a win-win situation for the streaming platform because the actors in the film have their own fan base and when they know that the film wouldn’t be aired on any other platform, will definitely go for a subscription to watch the film. A large section of viewers, otherwise don’t bother watching films during release because of the hope that they could watch it on television later – this, however, may not be the case for Nishabdham.
Directed by Hemanth Madhukar, the film has been in the making for long and reportedly, one of the earliest films approached for a direct digital release by the platform. Nishabdham is a Tamil-Telugu bilingual that will be dubbed into Malayalam as well.
