Excerpt: In a recent interview, director Lokesh Kanagaraj confirmed that the character played by Vijay Sethupathi, Sandhanam, has reached its conclusion in the LCU (Lokesh Cinematic Universe) movies, and there won’t be a return for the character in the next installments. This has put an end to fan theories about the character’s fate following the climax of Vikram.
LCU is the most talked-about topic in the South film industry right now. Meanwhile, Vikram, the 2022 blockbuster that marked the grand comeback of veteran actor Kamal Haasan into films, is one of the best multi-starrers of Indian cinema in recent times. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, it featured National award-winning actors Vijay Sethupathi and Fahadh Faasil in pivotal roles, with a cameo appearance by Suriya.
Vijay Sethupathi played the role of the lead antagonist, Sandhanam, the ruthless leader of a drug cartel who works for Suriya’s character, Rolex, in the movie. Although Sandhanam met his end in the climax of Vikram, fans speculated that his character might return since his death wasn’t explicitly shown. However, director Lokesh Kanagaraj has now clarified this.
In a recent interview with the Cinema Express YouTube channel, Lokesh Kanagaraj confirmed that Vijay Sethupathi’s character, Sandhanam, has indeed reached its conclusion in the LCU (Lokesh Cinematic Universe) movies. The director also affirmed that Sandhanam died in the climax of Vikram and will not make a comeback in the next installments.
The upcoming movies within the LCU will introduce a new character to replace the antagonist role played by Vijay Sethupathi. This new character will assist Rolex in rebuilding his drug empire and pursuing his political ambitions. However, the casting for this character will be addressed only after Lokesh Kanagaraj and his team complete their ongoing project with Rajinikanth, tentatively titled Thalaivar 171.
Lokesh Kanagaraj is temporarily stepping away from his LCU projects to focus on his standalone action movie with superstar Rajinikanth. After the OTT release of “Leo,” the filmmaker will take a six-month break from social media to concentrate on scripting this project, scheduled to begin production by mid-2024.
Following the release of “Thalaivar 171,” Lokesh will immediately commence the making of “Kaithi 2,” the highly awaited sequel to the first movie in the LCU, featuring Karthi in the lead role. Later, he will direct more films within the action thriller universe, including a standalone movie centered on Rolex, a sequel to “Leo,” and “Vikram 2,” expected to be the grand finale of the LCU.
