Netflix bets big on star hero despite recent setbacks

Ajith Kumar’s upcoming film Good Bad Ugly directed by Adhik Ravichandran, is set to release in theaters on April 10, 2025. With a runtime of two hours and 18 minutes, the film strikes a balance between being engaging yet not too lengthy. Initially planned for a Pongal release on January 10, the movie was postponed to April after Ajith’s other film, Vidaamuyarchi, took that slot.

Despite recent budget concerns among streaming platforms, Netflix has shown strong confidence in Ajith Kumar’s films. The OTT giant has acquired both Vidaamuyarchi and Good Bad Ugly, even though Ajith has not delivered a major box office hit in recent years. While Vidaamuyarchi did not set records in theaters or on Netflix, the platform has still invested in Good Bad Ugly for a reported price of ₹90-95 crores.

This move has raised eyebrows in the industry especially as many big-budget films are facing delays in digital releases due to financial constraints. However, Netflix appears to be banking on Ajith’s strong fan following and market potential. Whether this strategy will prove successful remains to be seen.
