Nayanthara recalls feeling annoyed during shoot with star hero
Actress Nayanthara recently opened up about her challenging experience working with Malayalam superstar Mohanlal during the filming of the 2004 movie Vismayathumbathu. Directed by Fazil, the psychological thriller marked one of Nayanthara’s early ventures in Malayalam cinema.
In an interview, Nayanthara revealed that she struggled to adapt to the demands of the role and the language barrier, which led to moments of frustration. Recalling an incident, she shared that the director, Fazil, was visibly upset with her performance, saying, “You’re not understanding.”
Mohanlal, noticing her difficulties, stepped in to offer advice. However, his repeated suggestions to “generate emotions from within” left her feeling overwhelmed. “I didn’t know what I was doing,” Nayanthara admitted. “I was told to stand on a mark, cry at a specific word, and show love at another. I felt completely lost, with only fear inside me.”
In a heated moment, she expressed her frustration to Mohanlal, who, instead of reacting negatively, simply laughed and advised her to take a break. This gesture helped ease the tension and allowed her to regroup.
Fazil later approached her, acknowledging her potential and reassuring her that he believed in her abilities. He encouraged her to rest and return with a fresh perspective.
Vismayathumbathu, based on the French novel If Only It Were True, featured Mohanlal as a man with the ability to communicate with spirits. The film not only showcased Mohanlal’s versatility but also proved to be a significant learning experience for Nayanthara.
Reflecting on the incident, Nayanthara expressed gratitude for the support she received from both Mohanlal and Fazil. Their guidance, she said, played a vital role in shaping her career and understanding the nuances of acting.
