The pandemic phase has taken a toll on the business of theaters. With nearly seven films including five South films, having a digital release on Amazon Prime, the controversy has already stirred up with theaters association expressing their discontentment over makers choosing OTT platform.
Meanwhile, Mahanati director Nag Ashwin has come up with a quirky idea to save the theater businnes. He said that like West, back here also if theaters could license to sellbeer, breezer or wine it would help in increasing the footfall at the multiplexes. Taking to Twitter, he wrote, “Once In a talk with suresh babu garu and rana, it came up what if theaters get license to serve beer/breezer/wine, like in other countries..could it increase footfalls…could it save the theater business (which does need saving)…wat do you think? Good idea, bad idea?”

However, netizens were quick to react to Nag Ashwin’s proposal. While a section of them liked his idead, others felt that this move would discourage families to enter theaters. Well, how well the idea will turn into reality will be only seen once the lockdown is lifted.
