Meet popular Telugu actor who was once asked to return his Padma Shri Award
Brahmanandam is a well-known actor in Indian cinema, famous for his comedy roles. He was born on February 1, 1956, in Andhra Pradesh, into a modest family with eight siblings. His father, Nagalingachari, was a carpenter who struggled to provide for the family. Despite these challenges, Brahmanandam completed his Master’s degree and began working as a Telugu lecturer.
While teaching, Brahmanandam pursued his passion for acting by performing in theaters and doing mimicry. His career took off in 1985 with his debut in the Telugu TV show Pakapakalu. He gained significant recognition in 1987 when he appeared in the film Aha Naa-Pellanta!, marking a turning point in his acting career. Over the years, he has acted in over 1,000 films, making him one of the highest-paid comic actors in India, reportedly charging around Rs 2 crore per film.

Brahmanandam has worked with many renowned actors, including Rajinikanth, Allu Arjun, and Nayanthara. His notable films include Kshana Kshanam, Rowdy Alludu, Jamba Lakidi Pamba, and Race Gurram. In recognition of his contributions to cinema, he was awarded the Padma Shri in 2009. Interestingly, he also holds a Guinness World Record for having the most screen credits for a living actor.
Despite his success, Brahmanandam faced controversy when the Andhra Pradesh High Court asked him to return his Padma Shri Award. This occurred after his name was listed with the title in a film credit, which led to a legal challenge. However, the Supreme Court later stayed this order.

On the personal front, Brahmanandam is married to Lakshmi, and they have two sons, Raja Gautham and Siddharth. Raja Gautham is also an actor, appearing in films like Pallakilo Pellikoothuru and Manu.
Brahmanandam’s upcoming project is Brahma Anandam, where he stars alongside his son, scheduled for release on December 6, 2024. With his incredible talent and dedication, Brahmanandam remains a beloved figure in Indian cinema, known for his humor and versatility.
