Matka closing collection prediction: Varun Tej’s film to end up as an epic flop
Varun Tej’s latest film, Matka, which was released on November 14, 2024, is being labeled a massive failure. The period biographical action drama, based on the life of gambler Ratan Khetri, opened to disappointing reviews from both critics and audiences. Directed by Karuna Kumar, known for Palasa, the film was expected to be a significant milestone in Tej’s career, especially with the actor taking on a challenging role.
Despite Tej’s impressive physical transformation for the role set in the 1950s—complete with accurate costumes, hairstyle, and body language—the film’s weak storyline and poor execution failed to resonate with viewers. The movie’s box office performance was underwhelming, with early predictions suggesting a major financial loss.
According to reports, Matka’s worldwide theatrical rights were valued at ₹20 crore, but its recovery is only 3%. The film’s budget exceeds ₹50 crore, leading experts to predict it will end up as a “colossal disaster.” With an estimated closing share of less than ₹60 lakh, the film is expected to struggle in recovering its costs.
The cast includes Varun Tej as the lead, alongside Meenakshi Chaudhary, Nora Fatehi, and others in pivotal roles. Produced by Vyra Entertainment and SRT Entertainments, the film features music by G.V. Prakash Kumar and cinematography by A. Kishor Kumar.
Despite the setback, Varun Tej is expected to focus on a strong comeback, as Matka’s failure marks a significant moment in his career.
