Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s next movie, ‘Master’ release, creates a lot of confusion in the trade circles. The film was supposed to hit the screens in April this year but was postponed due to the COVID lockdown. Later, speculations concluded that the film would have a digital release, but the film unit condemned all the rumors. Director Lokesh Kanagaraj and the film’s production house confirmed multiple times that the movie would have a release in theatres first. Much to everyone’s surprise, there are reports that the film will release for Pongal on Netflix.
A newspaper report in Tamilnadu also carried the same news.As of now, there is no confirmation from the movie unit. There is a strong buzz that ‘Master’ will skip the theatrical release. Amazon Prime Video bagged the movie’s streaming rights and confirmed the release on the platform only after the film releases in theatres. But, Netflix reportedly offered a deal to the producers for releasing the movie directly on their platform. If the film unit opts for a release on Netflix, they will have to return the distributors’ advances and terminate the deal with Amazon Prime Video. On the other hand, Kerala’s distributors reconfirmed that the theatres in the state will reopen with the release of ‘Master.’
