Masaba Gupta, daughter of actress Neena Gupta and former cricketer Viv Richards, is a popular name in the fashion world. With many top celebrities from Sonam Kapoor among others who have decked up in Masaba’s label is name tk reckon with. While her success is a celebration, but Masaba recalls stating that she once wanted to become an actress like her mother and fashion designing happened later. Speaking in Cosmopolitan magazine’s ‘self-issue’ series, she opened up about her struggle of acceptance against body shaming and Bollywood treatment who doesn’t match to their standards.
Masaba in dealing body shaming
She continues saying that it took years for her to accept and live her body. Stating she is not a regular Indian girl as the rest of the world watches he as a ‘man’s body’ owing to her genes. She said, “I just don’t pay any heed! All of us have our own defence mechanisms, and mine is to not mull over things that are not important. So even at that time, I just moved on, and was like, ‘It’s okay, I’ll pursue something else.’ Although I only made my peace with it after I became a successful as a fashion designer. But I hadn’t decided to get into another career to prove a point, like ‘Oh I’m going to show these people.’”
She states that while Bollywood has lot of conversations about body positivity and inclusiveness it doesn’t happen on the real canvass. “And no matter how many conversations we have about inclusivity and body positivity, I know for a fact that even in Bollywood, top roles are still reserved for only some and not the others,” she said.
