Adhik Ravichandran, the director of ‘Mark Antony’, said he was initially shocked to know that Telugu comedian-actor Sunil hadn’t done a single Tamil film. Adhik was speaking during the pre-release event of Mark Antony here in Hyderabad on Sunday.
Starring actor Vishal in a double role, the film is set to release in theatres on September 15. Touted to be a pan-India flick, ‘Mark Antony’ is produced by S. Vinod Kumar under the banner of Mini Studio. Popular Kollywood actor SJ Surya too played a crucial role in the film while actress Ritu Verma played opposite Vishal. Comedian-actor Sunil and Tamil director-turned-actor Selva Raghavan too have played important characters in the film.
Speaking on the occasion, director Adhik said, “Hyderabad is very special to me because my first flight I boarded was from Chennai to Hyderabad. It’s been like so many years I have been wanting to work with actor Vishal anna. So I could somehow catch hold of him and narrate the story ‘Mark Antony’. I thank producer Vinod sir for mounting the film on a massive budget and giving a grandeur look to it. After Vishal anna came into the project, we brought SJ Suryah sir on board. The story is about father and son — Antony is father and Mark is son. I can say actor Vishal anna gave his career-best performance in the film. As an actor, I love him so much. Then we got actor Sunil sir into the film. After watching Pushpa, I was blown away by his performance. He is playing the role of Ekambaram in ‘Mark Antony’. I was shocked because all these years he hadn’t done any Tamil film. Each and every day, we really enjoyed working on the sets. I strongly believe that Mark Antony is going to be the first blockbuster Tamil film in Sunil sir’s career.”
Replying to praise from Adhik, actor Sunil said, “I had never expected that I would act in a Tamil film in my career. Director Adhik gave me my first Tamil movie chance. Like the way you teach a toddler, he explained to me everything from scratch to set the ball rolling. This is my first Tamil film, and it is going to be a memorable flick in my career.”
