Mani Ratnam’s Navarasa is one of the much-awaited shows on Netflix. It is out today and read our review to find out if the film has any juice in it or not.
Plot
The show has nine episodes and it deals with different Navarasas. Each story has one emotion and is showcases some of the finest talents directing each story. All the stories carry the basic emotion which it is assigned. The episodes are directed by Priyadarshan, Vasanth, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Bejoy Nambiar, Karthik Subbaraj, Sarjun KM, Karthick Naren, Arvind Swami, Rathindran R. Prasad.
Performances
Revathi is amazing in the first episode and showcases good emotions in her role. Vijay Sethupathi and Prakash Raj do well in their roles. The basic theme of this show is good. Ramya Nambeesan was good in her role as a dog lover in the second story. The actor who played the little Yogi Babu was good. Delhi Ganesh was amazing as a jealous person in his story. Arvind Swamy and Prassana do well in their story. Suriya as a lover boy is a misfit in his story. Siddharth and Parvathy were amazing in their suspenseful story. The rest of the actors just come and go.
Analysis
The show is filled with nine stories and they do not impress much. So much was told about these emotions but they fail to deliver for sure. The stories that make some sense are summer of 92 by Priyadarshan, Inmai By Rathindran, and Roundram by Arvind Swamy who directs this short in the best way possible.
The rest of the stories are confusing, especially the Project Agni which is way too advanced and is hard to understand for the common man. The emotions in most of the stories are missing badly as the concentration is on the star cast but not the execution.
Gautam Menon’s story is the worst of all. Suriya and his heroine Pragya martin only talk and do nothing else and end the show in a bad way. The music composed for all the shows is very good and so were the visual effects that were done.
Mani Ratnam has spent a high budget on this film which shows. But in all this, most of the stories fail to click making Navarasa a boring affair and one needs so much patience to watch this anthology series.
Bottom Line – Lengthy, Slow, and Boring
