It is already known that popular Tamil lyricist Vairamuthu got sacked from Mani Ratnam’s upcoming film, Ponniyin Selvan. The several sexual harassment charges on Vairamuthu has made Mani Ratnam dissociate with him. We hear that another lyricist Kabilan got signed up to write the songs of the film.
Apparently, Kabilan already wrote a couple of songs and music director AR Rahman has recorded them as well. Mani Ratnam is currently in Thailand, shooting for the film. Once he is back, they will work on the remaining songs of the movie. We still don’t know whether Kabilan will write the rest of the songs or some other lyricist will get roped in.
It seems that AR Rahman is one of the main reasons for Vairamuthu for getting sacked. The music director didn’t work with the lyricist for his last three Tamil films, Mersal, Sarkar and Bigil. After #MeToo allegations popped up, he decided not to work with Vairamuthu. Now, even Mani Ratnam also cut off his ties with the star writer. Meanwhile, Mani is currently shooting the first schedule of the film in the forest areas of Thailand. Ponniyin Selvan features Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, Trisha and Mohan Babu in the main roles.
