Superstar Mahesh Babu got a jolt from the Hyderabad GST (Goods and Services Tax) department as his bank accounts were seized after the actor failed to pay a sum of Rs 18.5 lakh back in 2007-08. Despite being informed about the due taxes Mahesh didn’t pay, hence putting all the interests it sums up to Rs 73.5 lakh now. The officials thus have seized his accounts from ICICI and Axis.
“The total tax due from him was Rs 1.85 million or Rs 18.5 lakh. The GST department has attached his bank accounts in Axis Bank and ICICI Bank for an amount of Rs 7.35 million (Rs 73.5 lakh), which includes tax, interest and penalty. We have attached the bank accounts and started recovering… We have recovered Rs 4.2 million (Rs 42 lakh) from Axis Bank today. Balance, ICICI bank has to pay by on Friday,” the press release stated. Mahesh is yet to give a statement on this.
Career-wise, Mahesh is shooting for his 25th film Maharshi directed by Vamsi Paidipally. The film stars Pooja Hegde and Allari Naresh and deals with issues, reportedly on the plight of farmers.
