Liquor prices drop in Andhra Pradesh after policy change
Good news for liquor consumers in Andhra Pradesh! Recently, 11 liquor companies have significantly reduced the basic prices of their products. This change comes after years of high liquor prices under the previous YSR Congress Party (YCP) government.
During the YCP regime, liquor prices were raised to cover commissions allegedly given to influential individuals within the government. However, with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) now in power, a new liquor policy has been introduced. This policy focuses on consumer demand and has encouraged branded liquor companies, which had exited the Andhra Pradesh market during YCP’s rule, to return.
The revised liquor policy aims to make alcoholic beverages more affordable. Liquor companies are now offering reduced prices to the Andhra Pradesh Beverages Corporation Limited. This price reduction will lower the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) for consumers. Reports suggest that depending on the brand, the price of a quarter bottle of liquor may drop by approximately Rs. 30.
This price slash is seen as a significant move to benefit consumers and revive the liquor market in Andhra Pradesh. The NDA government’s approach has focused on eliminating commission-based pricing and ensuring transparency in the liquor trade.
With these changes, many are hopeful for a more consumer-friendly environment in the state’s liquor industry.
