Nagpur: In a tragic and shocking incident, a woman allegedly killed her three-year-old daughter following a dispute with her husband in Maharashtra’s Nagpur city and then walked around with the child’s body for four kilometers before notifying the police, officials reported on Wednesday.
The incident occurred on Monday evening within the jurisdiction of the MIDC police station. The accused, Twinkle Raut (23), and her husband Rama Laxman Raut (24), had moved to Nagpur four years ago seeking employment. They both worked at a paper products company and lived in accommodation provided on the firm’s premises on Hingna Road in the MIDC area, according to an official.
Their relationship was reportedly tumultuous, characterized by frequent arguments and mutual distrust. On Monday, around 4 pm, another quarrel erupted between the couple, during which their daughter began to cry. In a fit of rage, Twinkle Raut took the child outside and allegedly strangled her to death under a tree, the official said.
After committing the act, Twinkle Raut walked with the child’s body for nearly four kilometers. Around 8 pm, she approached a police patrolling vehicle and informed the officers about the incident. The police rushed the child to a hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead, the official stated.
The MIDC police arrested Twinkle Raut and charged her under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code. She was subsequently produced in court and remanded to police custody until May 24, the official added.
