L2: Empuraan box office collection day 1

Mohanlal’s much-anticipated action thriller Empuraan hit theaters worldwide on March 27, 2025. Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and written by Murali Gopy, this film is the second part of the Lucifer trilogy. The movie is jointly produced by Aashirvad Cinemas and Sree Gokulam Movies with Lyca Productions presenting it.

According to Indian box office tracker Sacnilk, Empuraan is expected to have a solid opening. Early reports indicate that the film earned approximately ₹1.71 crore on its first day in India. This number is based on live data and may be updated as more reports come in.

The Lucifer trilogy was planned from the beginning with the first film’s success paving the way for Empuraan. The sequel was officially announced in June 2019, but the COVID-19 pandemic delayed production. Writer Murali Gopy expanded the story, ensuring it would also work as a standalone film.

The screenplay was completed in 2022, with pre-production starting in 2023. Lyca Productions joined the project in September 2023, marking its entry into Malayalam cinema. Filming took place over 145 days across India, the UK, the US, and the UAE. The movie makes history as the first Malayalam film released in IMAX and EPIQ formats.

Mohanlal reprises his role as Khureshi Ab’raam, also known as Stephen Nedumpally. Prithviraj Sukumaran returns as Zayed Masood, with Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, and Indrajith Sukumaran in key roles. The supporting cast includes Abhimanyu Singh, Jerome Flynn, Saikumar, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and many others.

The film is produced by Antony Perumbavoor and Gokulam Gopalan, with cinematography by Sujith Vaassudev and music by Deepak Dev. The action sequences were choreographed by Stunt Silva, while the visual effects were handled by multiple studios.
