Kollywood upcoming movies 2024:
In the first half of 2024, the Tamil film industry struggled with big movies like Raayan, Lal Salaam, Ayaalaan and Captain Miller performing poorly at the box office. Despite a few unexpected hits like Aranmanai 4, Garudan and Maharaja, there was no major blockbuster. However, the second half of the year looks promising with several highly anticipated films featuring top stars set for release.
Leading this lineup is Indian 2 directed by Shankar and starring Kamal Haasan. Scheduled for release on July 12, Kamal Haasan reprises his role as the iconic character Indian, showcasing 12 unique looks in the film. Although the trailer received mixed reactions, the combination of Shankar and Haasan has raised expectations.
Next is Dhanush’s Raayan, a gangster drama set for release on July 26. This film is special as Dhanush is both directing and starring in it, marking his 50th film, with music by AR Rahman. Raayan is expected to make a significant impact.
One of the most talked-about films of the year is Thalapathy Vijay’s GOAT (The Greatest Of All Time). Featuring Vijay in a dual role, the film’s time-travel storyline is expected to captivate audiences. Speculated to be one of Vijay’s final films, GOAT is crucial for his career.
Suriya’s Kanguva and Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan are set to clash during the Dasara holidays on October 10. Directed by Siruthai Siva, Kanguva is Suriya’s most expensive film to date, featuring him in six roles. On the other hand, Vettaiyan, directed by TJ Gnanavel, aims to continue Rajinikanth’s success streak after Jailer.
Ajith Kumar’s Vidaa Muyarchi, directed by Magizh Thirumeni, is set for a Deepavali release, while Chiyaan Vikram’s Thangalaan directed by Pa Ranjith, is aiming for an August 15 release. Thangalaan set against the backdrop of the Kolar Gold Fields, promises to be a visual treat.
Finally, Sivakarthikeyan’s Amaran, a biographical action war film, is also eyeing an August 15 release. Based on the life of Major Mukund Varadarajan, the film is expected to draw significant attention.
The Tamil film industry is relying on these upcoming films to rejuvenate its standing and reestablish itself as one of the leading film industries in the country.
