DMK patriarch Karunanidhi’s last rites took lace from Rajaji Hall to Matina Beach, where he was laid to rest with state honours. The five-time chief minister was laid to rest next to Jayalalithaa, DMK founder CN Annadurai and MGR.

Karunanidhi Buried Marina Beach

The leaders’ sons MK Stalin and Tamizharasu and his family members followed the casket for the funeral procession at the Marina Beach.  Notably, the funeral procession at the Marina Becah happened after the Madras High Court allowed the burial of DMK patriarch M. Karunanidhi at Marina Beach.  The petition was filed by the DMK at the court for granting permission to erect a memorial after the state government led by Tamil Nadu AIDMK chief minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami denied the permission owing to political rivalry. In the petition, the DMK sought permission to erect a memorial next to party founder CN Annadurai’s memorial.
