Karan Johar’s statement on Rajamouli ignites debate
Filmmaker Karan Johar recently shared his thoughts on storytelling in an interview with Komal Nahta. He emphasized that conviction plays a bigger role than logic in making a successful film. According to him, when a filmmaker believes in their vision, audiences are more likely to accept even unrealistic scenes.
Johar highlighted the works of SS Rajamouli, Sandeep Reddy Vanga, and Anil Sharma as examples of this idea. He pointed out that Rajamouli’s films, despite not always being realistic, succeed because of the filmmaker’s confidence. “Take Rajamouli sir’s movies, for instance. Where can you spot logic?” he remarked. He explained that Rajamouli’s storytelling approach convinces viewers to believe in whatever is shown on screen. “This holds true for all major blockbusters, including ‘Animal’, ‘RRR’, and ‘Gadar’,” Johar added.
#KaranJohar shared that conviction plays a more important role in movies when logic falls short. He believes that the best filmmakers and their hit films are powered by strong conviction, where logic often takes a backseat.

He further illustrated his point with a reference to *Gadar*. In the film, the lead character fights off a thousand men using a handpump—something unrealistic in real life. However, Johar noted that the director’s confidence made it seem believable. “Anil Sharma made Sunny Deol’s character so convincing that audiences accepted his strength,” he explained.
According to Johar, filmmakers who hesitate or overthink logic may struggle to create blockbuster movies. He believes that success comes from fully committing to a vision. “Conviction is what truly matters,” he said, emphasizing that logical accuracy is secondary in cinema.
However his words haven’t went good with Rajamouli fans and has sparked debate on social media.
