Kamal responds on Vijay’s political entry

Kamal Haasan, a veteran in both politics and the film industry, is known for balancing these two worlds. In contrast, actor Vijay recently declared his foray into politics with the party named ‘Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam,’ expressing his intention to dedicate full time to political endeavors after his 69th film.

Vijay recently shared his political aspirations through a heartfelt note on his new political handle ‘TVK Vijay.’ He highlighted his commitment to bringing about “fundamental political change” characterized by transparent, caste-free, and corruption-free governance.

While Vijay is currently working on the film GOAT with Venkat Prabhu, his 69th film is anticipated to be under DVV productions, with Trivikram as a potential director. Meanwhile Kamal Haasam, acknowledging Vijay’s political entry, mentioned that he had discussions with Vijay about politics and welcomed him, noting that quitting films was Vijay’s personal choice.

Speaking at a political press meet the veteran star said, “I’ve already spoken to him about politics. I was the first person to welcome him in person, and we had extensive discussions in the office. He also said quitting films was his own choice.”

Also, actor and Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) founder Kamal Haasan strongly criticized individuals who abstain from voting, asserting that such individuals are not fully committed citizens of the country. During the seventh-anniversary function of MNM, Kamal addressed accusations that he is not a ‘full-time’ politician, emphasizing the importance of civic participation.

Highlighting the Election Commission of India’s spending limit of Rs 95 lakh for each candidate, Kamal sarcastically remarked on his own electoral defeat in the Coimbatore South constituency during the 2021 Assembly elections. He questioned the impact of such a budget and quipped that it could only achieve victory in Coimbatore South. “The ECI has said that each candidate can spend Rs 95 lakh. What can you accomplish just by spending 95 lakh?” You can only accomplish Coimbatore South,” Kamal said, taking a dig at his own loss in the Coimbatore South constituency to Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Vanathi Sreenivasan during the 2021 Assembly elections.
