Prabhas’ much-anticipated science fiction movie, Kalki 2898AD, is set to grace the silver screens on May 9th this year. The film, featuring Deepika Padukone alongside Prabhas, has been a hot topic since its announcement over three years ago.
Today, on Maha Shivratri, the film’s makers revealed that Prabhas’ character is named Bhairava. They shared this exciting update on social media, showcasing glimpses of the future streets of Kasi and introducing “BHAIRAVA” from #Kalki2898AD.
The poster depicts him with a tattoo on his hand and wearing futuristic glasses, set in the holy city of Kasi from the future, not a lab or workshop. Bairava signifies a fearsome form that destroys fear. Prabhas’ character is portrayed as a protector in the title teaser, weaving together ancient mythology and a distant futuristic society in Kalki 2898 AD. The story delves into themes of destiny, redemption, and the eternal battle between light and darkness across human existence.
Directed by Nag Ashwin, known for Yevade Subramanyam and Mahanati, Kalki 2898 AD explores a unique genre rarely seen in Indian cinema. This marks Ashwin’s first collaboration with Prabhas, and the film was initially titled Project K in 2020, later unveiled as Kalki 2898 AD at the 2023 San Diego Comic Con.
In a recent interview, Nag Ashwin shared insights into the film’s storyline, spanning from the Mahabharata era to the futuristic year of 2898 AD. He aimed to create a relatable world for the Indian audience, emphasizing the 6000-year time frame between these periods.
The star-studded cast includes Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan, Amitabh Bachchan, Disha Patani, Pasupathi, and more, with Kamal Haasan portraying the antagonist. Backed by C ASwani Dutt’s Vyjayanthi Movies, Kalki’s music is composed by Santhosh Narayanan, while Djordje Stojiljkovic handles cinematography and Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao takes charge of editing.
Kalki 2898AD promises a cinematic journey that combines mythology with futuristic elements, creating anticipation for its release on May 9th.
