Jio network outage: Thousands of users across India left without signal
On September 17, 2024, Jio users across India encountered a large-scale network outage, leading to disruptions in mobile services. According to Down Detector, a platform that tracks network issues, more than 10,000 complaints were recorded by 12:18 PM. The majority of users reported problems related to a complete loss of signal, with 68% of the complaints mentioning ‘No Signal,’ 18% about mobile internet issues, and 14% related to JioFibre.
The first signs of the outage were detected around 10:13 AM when Down Detector logged only a handful of reports. However, by noon, the number surged dramatically, reflecting widespread connectivity problems across the country.

Other telecom networks, such as Airtel, Vodafone Idea, and BSNL, seemed unaffected by this outage. Jio users took to social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) to express their frustrations, using hashtags like #JioDown to highlight the situation. Many reported being unable to make calls or send messages, while some claimed their internet was unusable.
Some users humorously commented on the situation, with one remarking, “Jio Network Outage, Vodafone and Airtel Users laughing in the corner.” Another comment humorously implied that Jio’s founder, Mukesh Ambani, might be upset with the service disruption.
