During a recent visit to flood-affected areas, former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy made statements that quickly became the subject of social media trolling. Accompanied by other leaders, Jagan made two surprising claims regarding the Budameru Canal, which many found hard to believe. He suggested that the floods were “man-made” and accused former Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu (CBN) of diverting Budameru Canal waters by lifting gates to flood Vijayawada and protect his home in Vundavalli.
However, Jagan’s comments revealed a significant lack of understanding about the Budameru Canal. The canal flows through Krishna district and Vijayawada city, while CBN’s house is located in Vundavalli village, across the Krishna River in Guntur district. Furthermore, the Budameru Canal does not have gates that can be lifted or closed at will, as Jagan claimed. This misinformation led to widespread criticism and trolling on social media, as many were baffled by his ignorance of such a basic matter.
Jagan’s baseless allegations highlight his lack of awareness, especially as a political leader where such ignorance can be seen as arrogance. His statements only served to provide more material for his detractors, further damaging his credibility.
