Chiyaan Vikram’s recent film Thangalaan has captivated audiences across India making a significant impact at the box office. Released in multiple languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam, the film has received widespread acclaim. In a recent interview Vikram, along with actress Parvathy Thiruvothu and director Pa Ranjith shared their thoughts on the film’s success and the possibility of a sequel.
During the interview, Pa Ranjith discussed the potential for a sequel to Thangalaan, a topic of much interest among fans. He hinted that the film’s storyline has deep roots and hinted that there is more to explore in the world of Thangalaan.
He said, “Thangalaan is deeply rooted in many aspects. As we embark on something new, we need to think like roots extending far and wide. I have many intriguing ideas, and after Thangalaan, a lot of viewers have expressed interest in its world… I’ve been contemplating it a lot. I want to dive back into that world again.”
Pa Ranjith talked about the audience’s curiosity about what happened to the characters after the events of Thangalaan, particularly regarding the gold and the impact of the colonial system on their lives. “After Thangalaan acquired the gold, there’s a lot to explore—whether the colonial system allowed them to be happy or not, and how their lives were altered, or perhaps remained the same. That question is crucial. So yes, I want to revisit that world,” he added.
Vikram too reflected on the overwhelming response Thangalaan has garnered nationwide. He noted that the film’s success extended beyond the Tamil audience with the number of theaters screening the film increasing significantly during its second week in other regions.
The actor shared his thoughts, saying, “It’s been incredible across all languages, and it’s especially surprising that not just in Tamil, but even in Telugu, the number of theaters increased in the second week. The appreciation has been overwhelming. People are coming up to us and saying, ‘Wow, what a film, it’s like this…’”
In addition to Vikram and Parvathy Thiruvothu, Thangalaan boasts a star-studded cast, including Malavika Mohanan, Pasupathy, Daniel Caltagirone, and Hari Krishnan all of whom have delivered compelling performances that contributed to the film’s success.
