Is Prabhas the biggest hero in Tollywood? Suresh Babu shares his thoughts
In an interview, renowned film exhibitor Daggubati Suresh Babu shared his thoughts on who reigns as the biggest star in Telugu cinema, particularly among prominent actors like Prabhas, Pawan Kalyan, and Allu Arjun. The discussion centered around the criteria for measuring star power, especially in terms of box office performance.
Suresh Babu emphasized that success in the film industry often hinges on the combination of star power and the skill of the director. He noted, “It’s a mix always. Independent stars have phenomenal pull. A director without a star doesn’t have the same pull as they have with a star.” He highlighted that a strong collaboration between a popular actor and a talented director can lead to even greater box office success.
When it comes to the current landscape of Telugu cinema, Suresh Babu stated, “In Telugu, Pawan Kalyan independently might have the best opening, Prabhas will have a phenomenal opening, and Bunny (Allu Arjun) will also have an impressive opening.” He pointed out that the type of film and the combination of the cast and crew play significant roles in determining success. Each of these actors has a loyal fan base, and their films can generate massive box office numbers, depending on various factors.
A central question posed during the interview was whether Prabhas is the biggest hero in the country. Suresh Babu explained, “Now is Prabhas the biggest hero in the country? We don’t know because he has Kalki and he has Baahubali, but in between, he didn’t have any major releases.” He stressed that discussions about who is the biggest star are essential for the industry, drawing parallels with actors like Ajith and Vijay in Tamil cinema, where similar debates occur regarding their status.
He also mentioned the dynamics of Pawan Kalyan’s popularity, noting that while he has a significant following in Andhra Pradesh, the outcomes of his films can vary based on the director and storyline. “If Pawan Kalyan comes with a small director, he can still have a big opening, but we won’t know what will happen if he works with a bigger director or if the film doesn’t meet audience expectations,” Suresh Babu elaborated.
The discussion took an interesting turn when Suresh Babu addressed the future of Tamil cinema, particularly regarding stars like Vijay and Ajith, who may shift their focus to other projects. He opined that while some might perceive this as a void, it opens up opportunities for new stars to emerge and make their mark.
