Indian 2 starring Kamal Haasan, is the sequel to the 1996 hit film Indian. In this film, Haasan reprises his famous role as Senapathy, a vigilante fighting corruption. After facing numerous production delays, the film finally hit theaters on July 12, 2024. Directed by S Shankar, “Indian 2” is now gearing up for its digital release.
Netflix South recently announced that “Indian 2” will be available on its platform in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. The movie will premiere on Netflix on August 9. Sharing the film’s poster featuring Kamal Haasan, Netflix stated, “Thatha varaaru, kadhara vida poraaru. #Indian2 is coming to Netflix on 9 August in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada!

Earlier reports indicated that Netflix acquired the post-theatrical OTT rights of “Indian 2” for a significant sum even before its theatrical release. However, due to the film’s poor box office performance, earning only around Rs 50 crore, Netflix tried to renegotiate the deal. Despite this, the issues were resolved, and the film is set for its OTT release.
The story of “Indian 2” continues years after the original film’s events. Senapathy has been living in Taiwan as a martial arts instructor. The plot kicks off with a group of YouTubers, led by Chitra Aravindan (played by Siddharth), who uncover corruption and start a social media campaign to bring Senapathy back to India. The hashtag #ComeBackIndian trends led to Senapathy’s return and his continued fight against corruption. He motivates the youth to expose corrupt practices, even within their own families, resulting in dramatic and tragic outcomes.
Besides Kamal Haasan, the film features Siddharth, Rakul Preet Singh, and others in significant roles. Additionally, “Indian 3,” set to release in January 2025, will feature Kajal Aggarwal in an important role and serve as a prequel to the “Indian” film series.
