Ilaiyaraaja biopic: Is it shelved?

The much-anticipated biopic of legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja, starring Dhanush and directed by Arun Matheswaran, appears to have hit a roadblock. While initial updates excited fans, the lack of news after the first round of shooting has raised concerns.

Dhanush, meanwhile, shifted his focus to other projects like Kubera, Idli Kadai, and the Bollywood film Tere Ishq Mein. This change fueled speculation that the biopic might be shelved. Reports from Chennai suggest the project is on hold, with budget constraints being a major issue. A film about Ilaiyaraaja’s extraordinary musical journey requires significant resources to do justice to his legacy.

Ilaiyaraaja had agreed to compose the soundtrack for the film and provided valuable insights to the writers and director, which had raised expectations for an authentic portrayal. However, casting actors for the iconic figures in Ilaiyaraaja’s life proved challenging. Many of these individuals are still alive, and recreating their personas convincingly added to the project’s complexity.

Despite these setbacks, insiders believe the biopic could still happen in the future. Given Dhanush’s admiration for Ilaiyaraaja, there’s hope that he will champion the project when conditions are more favorable. Fans remain eager to see the legendary composer’s life unfold on the big screen.
