IAS officer faces consequences for Jagan’s alleged crimes
Senior IAS officer Yerra Sri Lakshmi, who was jailed in connection with the Obulapuram mining case and interrogated in Jagan Mohan Reddy’s quid-pro-quo cases, continues to face the aftermath of these controversies. During the period of intense legal pressure, her health suffered significantly, and she was confined to a wheelchair for several months.
When Jagan came to power, he moved Sri Lakshmi from the Telangana cadre and gave her an important position in the government. However, her situation took another turn with the retirement of Chief Secretary Neerab Kumar Prasad this month. As per her seniority, Sri Lakshmi should have been the next Chief Secretary, the highest administrative position in the state. Yet, sources suggest that Chandrababu Naidu, the current Chief Minister, is not in favor of appointing her to the position.
There is widespread belief in the corridors of power that Sri Lakshmi is still “paying the price” for her association with Jagan’s alleged actions. While seniority places her next in line, it is expected that Sai Prasad, a former secretary in the Chandrababu government, will be appointed instead, due to the trust he had built during his tenure.
Sri Lakshmi’s continued exclusion from the position of Chief Secretary highlights the complex intersection of politics and bureaucracy, where personal and political affiliations can have long-lasting effects on an individual’s career.
As the situation unfolds, the debate over the influence of past political ties on career prospects remains a hot topic in Andhra Pradesh.
