Akhil Akkineni says that he usually likes action-oriented flicks more than romcoms or for that matter family entertainers that the Akkineni family has been dishing out over the decades.

“I like those formats of films. I always wanted to do larger-scale films, action movies in particular. When I was shooting for ‘Most Eligible Bachelor’ I was not satisfied with what I was doing. I’m not belittling that ‘MEB’. Action dramas are just my personal taste. Somewhere there was some uneasiness because I was doing a genre which I don’t like as much. Maybe at that point, it was right to pick that movie. During the Covid-19 lockdown, something like ‘Aathma vimarsa’ happened to me. What am I doing? Deep down, during the self searching, I met Surender Reddy. Action drama was in my mind when he asked what else I could try, that’s when ‘Agent’ was born,” he added.

Akhil spoke during an interview with web/print journalists on Saturday. His much-awaited action commercial potboiler ‘Agent’ stars Sakshi Vaidya as the female lead besides featuring senior Malayalam star Mammootty, Bollywood star Dino Morea, actor Vikramjeet Virk, Denzil Smith among several others in key roles. The film is slated to release in theatres on April 28.

Akhil further said that if he wanted to add value to the Telugu audiences and Akkineni fans he had to try something new. “If I follow the footsteps of all senior heroes, that won’t add any value. I want to try something fresh, and in an attempt to give something new to audiences, I had to pick the spy genre drama ‘Agent’.
