In a significant judgment, the Telangana High Court upheld the death sentence for Dinesh Kumar, convicted of raping and murdering a four-and-a-half-year-old girl in Hyderabad in 2017. Dinesh, originally from Madhya Pradesh, worked as a centering laborer at a construction site in Narsingi.
The victim’s parents, who were also employed at the same site, knew Dinesh well. On the tragic day, the young girl was playing near her home when Dinesh lured her with chocolates from a nearby grocery store. He then took her into the bushes, where he raped her twice. Fearing she would reveal the crime, he killed her.
When the child went missing, her parents reported it to the Narsingi Police Station. Following an investigation, Dinesh was arrested and brought to trial. In 2021, the Ranga Reddy court sentenced him to death. Dinesh challenged this verdict in the High Court.
After reviewing the case, the High Court affirmed the lower court’s decision, concluding that the death penalty was justified for such a heinous crime.
