Shankar cinematic universe:
Shankar Shanmugam, widely known as Shankar is a highly influential director in India. He gained nationwide acclaim nearly 30 years ago with films like Mudhalvan, Sivaji and Indian, which broke barriers by appealing to audiences across India.
In a recent interview, Shankar discussed his idea for a cinematic universe featuring his iconic characters from movies like Robot (Enthiran), Hindustani (Indian), Nayak (Mudhalvan), and Sivaji. He first conceived this idea back in 2008 during the making of Robot, where the concept excited him so much that he immediately shared it with his assistant directors. However, their lukewarm response made him doubt its potential, and he eventually shelved the idea.
Interestingly, Atlee, now a prominent director, once assisted Shankar on films like Enthiran and Nanban. Atlee likely heard Shankar’s concept for the cinematic universe during those days.
The concept of a Shankar cinematic universe raises intriguing questions. Given that the central characters in these films all challenge societal norms to fight for justice, blending them into one narrative could have been compelling. What do you think? Would such a crossover of characters make for an engaging story? Share your thoughts below!
Despite the shelving of this ambitious project, Shankar and Kamal Haasan are eagerly anticipating the release of Indian 2. In this sequel, protagonist Senapathy faces a new, significant challenge. Indian 2 is set to hit screens on July 12 across Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada languages.
Meanwhile Shankar is also busy with the project Game Changer. Game Changer starring Ram Charan features the tale of an IAS officer who sets out to corrupt the corruption in his political system. The film also has an ensemble cast of actors like Kiara Advani, Anjali, SJ Suryah, Jayaram, Srikanth, and many more in key roles. However, the movie is still to announce a confirmed release date, with speculations it will hit in September or October of this year.
