Rajinikanth and his wife Latha have been together for over 40 years creating a love story that has inspired many. They have two daughters Aishwaryaa and Soundaryaa and are now proud grandparents. Their relationship has shown that love not only lasts but grows stronger over time. But how did this power couple come together?
An Interview That Changed Everything
Their love story began in the early 1980s when Latha, a college student sought to interview Rajinikanth for her college magazine. The meeting took place on the sets of the film Thillu Mullu and for Rajinikanth, it was love at first sight. He was immediately drawn to Latha and knew she was the one for him.
During the interview, Rajinikanth and Latha discovered they had much in common. The conversation was more than just questions and answers; it sparked a connection that would eventually lead to a lifelong partnership.
Rajinikanth was so sure about his feelings for Latha that by the end of the interview, he proposed marriage to her. Latha, taken by surprise smiled and told him he needed to ask her parents for their permission first.
Latha later shared that Rajinikanth didn’t exactly propose in the traditional sense. Instead, he confidently informed her that he was going to marry her. This moment marked the beginning of their beautiful journey together.
Interestingly, Latha’s family owned a house in the same city where Rajinikanth had once worked as a bus driver. This connection, along with their growing feelings for each other, made their relationship even more special.
Rajinikanth however was nervous about approaching Latha’s parents. He knew that winning their approval would be crucial. During this time, he found out that Latha’s brother-in-law was Y G Mahendran, a well-known comedian. Seeking advice from Mahendran and other senior members of the film industry, Rajinikanth prepared himself to approach Latha’s family.
Eventually, the actor gathered the courage to speak with Latha’s parents, and his sincerity won them over. The couple was married on February 26, 1981, at the Balaji Temple in Tirupathi. The wedding was a traditional South Indian ceremony attended by close friends and family.
Rajinikanth has often spoken about how much Latha means to him. In an interview, he credited his wife for being his source of strength especially when it comes to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. He also mentioned that it was Y G Mahendran who played a significant role in introducing him to Latha and helping them get married. Rajinikanth, now 73 years old, attributes his good health to Latha’s care and support.
Rajinikanth and Latha’s marriage has been blessed with two daughters, Aishwaryaa and Soundaryaa. Both daughters have grown up to be strong, independent women and have made their parents proud. The couple is now enjoying the joys of grandparenthood.
Aishwaryaa, Rajinikanth’s elder daughter, was married to actor Dhanush. The couple has two children, Yatra and Linga. However, after 18 years of marriage, Aishwaryaa and Dhanush decided to part ways. Despite their separation, they continue to co-parent their children.
Soundaryaa, Rajinikanth’s younger daughter, is now happily married to Vishagan Vanangamudi. Before marrying Vishagan, Soundaryaa was previously married to Ashwin Ramkumar, but the couple separated in 2017.
