Netflix has achieved a significant milestone, surpassing 1 billion views in 2023, according to the streaming service’s second engagement report, What We Watched: A Netflix Engagement Report. The report, released on Friday, covers viewership data from July to December 2023.
Subscribers worldwide consumed approximately 90 billion hours of content on Netflix during the second half of 2023.
Top Titles from India
From India, several films stood out in terms of viewership: 1. Jaane Jaan by Sujoy Ghosh was the mostwatched movie with 20.2 million views.
2. Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan followed with 16.2 million views.
3. Vishal Bhardwaj’s Khufiya garnered 12.1 million views.
Other popular Indian titles included: 1. OMG 2 with 11.5 million views
2. Lust Stories 2 with 9.2 million views
3. Dream Girl 2 and the truecrime documentary Curry & Cyanide, each with 8.2 million views.
Popular Series in India: In the series category, The Railway Men, featuring Kay Kay Menon, Babil Khan, and Divyenndu, was the top title with 10.6 million views. It was set against the backdrop of the 1984 Bhopal Gas Leak.
Other notable series included: 1. Kohraa with Suvinder Vicky and Barun Sobti, attracting 6.4 million views
2. Raj and DK’s Gun and Gulaabs with 6.4 million views
3. Kaala Paani with 5.8 million views
Global NonEnglish Hits: NonEnglish shows and movies made up nearly a third of all Netflix viewing, reflecting the platform’s global reach. The report highlighted the popularity of stories in various languages:

Top Global Titles: Globally, the mostwatched movie on Netflix was Leave the World Behind, starring Ethan Hawke and Julia Roberts, with 121 million views. This was followed by Adam Sandler’s animated film Leo, which had 96 million views.
On the series side, the animeinspired liveaction series One Piece attracted 72 million views.
Ongoing Success of Original Titles: Fan favorites such as Wednesday, Red Notice, and Squid Game continued to draw millions of views in 2023, long after their initial premieres.
The report underscores Netflix’s continued dominance and influence in the global streaming market, offering a diverse range of content that appeals to audiences worldwide.
