The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave warning for Telangana, urging residents to brace themselves for soaring temperatures in the coming weeks.
Dr. A. Shravani, a scientist at IMD-Hyderabad, emphasized the likelihood of a sharp rise in temperatures in the city during the first week of April. She noted a temporary drop in temperatures expected in the second week due to thunderstorm activity, but cautioned that temperatures are forecasted to surge again in the third and fourth weeks.
Expressing concern over the possibility of heatwave conditions gripping the state, including Hyderabad, Dr. Shravani urged residents to take necessary precautions to stay safe during the anticipated heat spell.
Recent temperature recordings indicate a rapid escalation in mercury levels. On Thursday, Hyderabad recorded an average maximum temperature of 39.2 degrees Celsius. The IMD forecasts suggest that over the next three days, the average maximum temperature is likely to hover between 38 and 39 degrees Celsius.
As daytime temperatures already touch a sweltering 40 degrees Celsius, Hyderabadis are gearing up for even hotter days ahead. With the IMD’s cautionary statements in mind, residents are advised to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, and take necessary measures to beat the heat.
