The much-anticipated movie, Guntur Kaaram, has recently stirred controversy over allegations of copying the storyline from a Malayalam film. The film’s trailer, featuring the lead actor’s bond with his mother and their reunion after a series of life events, has drawn comparisons to the 2005 Malayalam movie Rajamanikyam, starring Mammootty.
Rajamanikyam revolves around a similar theme where the protagonist, after his mother’s remarriage to a wealthy businessman, faces rejection from her. Despite this, he remains devoted to protecting his stepbrother, ultimately facing a tragic situation.
The striking parallels between the trailers of Guntur Kaaram and Rajamanikyam caught the attention of vigilant movie enthusiasts, prompting them to highlight the similarities on social media platforms, leading to the trending hashtag. However, the makers of Guntur Kaaram have yet to respond to these accusations.
On the other hand, some of the recent reports also suggested that the storyline of Guntur Kaaram had been leaked, linking it to Yaddanapudi Sulochanarani’s novel “Keerthi Keeretaalu.” Speculation arose regarding Trivikram Srinivas, the film’s director, potentially crediting Yaddanapudi for inspiring the movie’s narrative.
This isn’t the first instance of Trivikram Srinivas adapting Yaddanapudi Sulochanarani’s work. His prior film, “A.. Aa…,” initially faced criticism for not acknowledging the novel “Meena,” also authored by Yaddanapudi, upon which the film was based. Trivikram later rectified this by giving due credit to the author.
As the controversy surrounding the alleged plagiarism continues to unfold, the audience awaits an official statement from the makers of Guntur Kaaram regarding these accusations and any possible attribution to the novel’s inspiration or Malayalam film.
