Celebrating its 25th anniversary, the hit film “Chudalani Vundhi,” starring megastar Chiranjeevi, continues to shine as a cinematic gem. Directed by Gunasekhar, the movie showcased the talents of Soundarya and Anjala Jhaveri as the female leads. Produced by Ashwini Dutt under the esteemed Vyjayanthi Films banner, the film’s impact remains undiminished. In a recent interview, Gunasekhar provided intriguing insights into the film’s journey.
Gunasekhar unveiled that the film initially carried the working title ‘Kaalika,’ referencing the deity Calcutta Kaalika. Addressing questions about the seemingly gentle title “Chudalani Vundhi” for a powerhouse like Chiranjeevi, the director clarified that the choice wasn’t his; it was Chiranjeevi who proposed it.
Elaborating further, Gunasekhar recalled, “While we explored various titles, Chiranjeevi Garu suggested the notion of ‘Sogasu Chuda Tharama,’ considering the film’s blend of action and elegance. He raised the idea of ‘Chudalani Vundhi’ as a potential title. Despite initial reservations about its compatibility with the megastar’s image, the title’s uniqueness eventually won us over.”
Interestingly, the narrative surrounding the title selection underscores the collaborative spirit of filmmaking and Chiranjeevi’s role in shaping the movie’s identity. As “Chudalani Vundhi” commemorates its quarter-century milestone, the revelations from Gunasekhar’s interview add a fresh layer of appreciation to the film’s enduring legacy.
